The  Xiphos sword  is a double-edged, one-handed short sword that was typically worn by Greek foot soldiers. The Xiphos was used for slashing and thrusting within close combat formations, and it reached a length of approximately 18 to 24 inches. Being ideal for close fighting once the longer spears lost their reach, its leaf-shaped blade provided better cutting action, and the balanced weight provided flexible and accurate movement.
